With the warm weather quickly approaching, golf season is in full swing! Here at Attune Sports Chiropractic we want you to be able to enjoy your rounds of golf all while staying pain free. Next time you are out on the course keep in mind some of these spine-sparing techniques to keep you pain free!
- Be sure to properly stretch and warm up before your round! Stretching the glutes, hamstrings, calf muscles, and hip flexors are all important muscles to stretch before you play.
- Taking the proper amount of practice swings is also a necessary measure before beginning a round of golf.
- Be sure to start off with 3-5 swings at 25-50%, then 3-5 more at 50-75%, and finally 3-5 swings at 100%.
- By gradually increasing your swing intensity before teeing off gives your body the proper time to warm up and reduce the chance of injury and pain throughout your round!
- Perform a golfers lift when teeing up your tee shots
- To perform this, hold your tee in your dominant hand and have a slight bend in the same side knee
- Next, with the opposite hand brace yourself with your golf club and perform a hip hinge to bend forward while raising the opposite side leg backwards off the ground
- Slowly lower yourself to the ground to insert your tee into the ground
Performing this when teeing up your shot or picking things up off the course can help reduce the chance of low back injury as well as take stress off of the knees
- Be sure to hydrate before, during and after your rounds especially if it is going to be hot out! Proper hydration helps to keep the intervertebral discs hydrated which reduces the risk of any disc injury!
- Most importantly, have fun! Get out and enjoy the beautiful weather on the course and be sure to come see us if any issues arise!
